In 2008 the operation of the market car parks came back to the community - at the determination of Council - via a 10 year agreement between Council and the specifically established Eumundi Combined Community Organisation Limited (ECCO), established as a not for profit company limited by guarantee with three owner associations: Eumundi and District Community Association, Eumundi Chamber of Commerce and Eumundi Historical Association. Two members of each of the owner associations are nominated at their respective AGMs as directors for the year ahead for ECCO's board.
With revenues generated from the operation of the markets carpark, ECCO's three constitutional objectives are to support:
(a) Projects that benefit the town of Eumundi and its surrounding areas, including projects that enhance community spirit and enjoyment; community amenities; community wellbeing and business and markets sustainability.
(b) To promote and encourage tourism and business opportunities that enhance Eumundi and its surrounding areas.
(c) To operate communal activities, including the community market car park, community bus, RV facility and the Green community magazine for the general benefit of Eumundi and its community.
In addition to the significant annual expenditure on projects and community amenities each year, ECCO also distributes some $60K annually to carpark volunteer associations - giving service to many parts of the Sunshine Coast.
